The Porch

Welcome, Friends!

As I mentioned on Facebook, thank you to everyone who attended our Anchorage book signing yesterday. I’m especially grateful to people like Ann and Jon, who braved the snowstorm and made the trip from the Valley. Also, thank you to people like Donna P who bought multiple books for Christmas presents. I know how tough money is to come by these days, so we really appreciate your support.

We had a great time visiting with you all, and we met a lot of new friends too. The store sold almost every book they had on hand so they were happy. Thanks B&N for helping us out.

One of my former students from my teaching days in Talkeetna showed up and handed me a poem I had written about him and his classmates 26 years ago. I was touched that he still had it… I hadn’t seen it since I’d written it.

It’s week two of the Advent season, the remembrance of the arrival of Jesus Christ into the world.

From the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association:

Rev. Billy Graham’s second Advent meditationfocuses on how we can follow the lead of Mary and Joseph in responding to God.
Matthew 1:19-21: Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.
Both Joseph and Mary followed the call and plan of God, and through their obedience the way was prepared for Christ to come and bless us.

Thanks, Sue. I still say it isn’t fair that my 70-something old mom looks younger than me!

      • she is beautiful and gracious. btw if you ever feel like recommending a local church I’d like to see if I could get Jon to come with me. He takes me everywhere else, I don’t see why not slip something spiritually meaningful in there. He respects you guys enough he’s probably go! Just a thought. I miss going to services but have not found a church here where I felt at home yet. (no offense intended to anyone) Merry Christmas!

We go to Change Point in Anchorage. We really enjoy Pastor Dan. Talk to my mom about Valley churches as she knows most of them well. She’s currently attending the one on the corner of the Big Lake cut-off and Parks Hwy.

Thank you for your thoughtful posts, Chuck. It’s great to hear your book signing was fun and successful and see the family. It’s likewise reassuring to see you boys well-attended by the two female supervisors. lol The folks are looking great, as always.

The music video you posted is outstanding. Very well done, and a wonderfully moving, well written song.

BTW…cough up the poem, dude! 🙂

Nice photo of you, your Mom and Dad, and little Sofia. I think your book is a nice introduction to the Palin/Heath families, it would be a great gift for Sarah Palin and almost Sarah Palin supporters, they get a bounus they learn about Alaska and the journey that brought your family there.

Love the book signing photo! Loved reading the book and the stories, loved how you and your dad intertwined each chapter. Great read about your lives growing up and Alaska life in general. Thanks for writing the book!
