Welcome, Friends! It’s on! Be sure to vote for your favorite image in the Liberty Pose contest. The survey is posted at the bottom of this post. Thank you to everyone who participated! All the entries were creative in some way and just the fact that folks took the time to submit a picture was awesome. Don’t forget there’s a second half to the contest, as all images are eligible for a random drawing for a signed copy of Dad’s and my book, Our Sarah: Made in Alaska. The deadline to get your picture in is 3/31/2013, 11:59pm (EDT). All details are at LibertyPose.com. Many of you may have already seen the new SarahPAC video that was released yesterday. Here it is again, along with my own “open letter” below. I’m proud of what Sarah has accomplished and what she’s continuing to try to do for this country. I don’t know anyone who has her courage and drive. She’s never been afraid to step out and say the things that millions of patriotic Americans think but are afraid to voice publicly. She has endured more than most people could ever imagine: from vicious verbal attacks on her children, to real threats on her own life… all because she’s felt compelled to speak out in an effort to get this country back on the right path.   Thanks for all you do Sarah.   -Chuck   Here’s the voting survey tool. Our Children’s World

We live in a troubled world today. Turmoil between nations, religious and political differences everywhere, the very real threat of terrorism, a global economy on the verge of collapse, major divisiveness within our own country, and a populous that seems to be turning their backs on God. I took my children on a simple walk tonight to a sledding hill near our house. We had a great time trudging through the snow and zipping down the hill. To top it off, we were blessed with an incredible sunset. I thought to myself as I watched the sun drop, “What kind of world are my children going to grow up in?” No one person is going to make this world a better place for our children. Our kids our completely innocent. It is up to every one of us to step up… teach them the difference between right and wrong; guide them in a direction that will help make them financially secure, i.e. spend within their means; teach them common courtesy and decency; instill in them a quest for new knowledge; make them respect what our soldiers have sacrificed for our country, and expect the same out of them; and help them to understand that there are scores of other children out there who don’t have parents who have raised them the right way, and it’s up to them to set an example for those.       Subscribe free to ChuckHeathJr.com and receive notice of each new post! Welcome, Friends! All this week as many remember Passover and prepare for Easter, I invite you to share your past experiences and thoughts in the comments. For you, what traditions really make your celebration special every year? Yesterday, I posted this comment and picture at Facebook. My son Teko asked, “Hey Dad, what happened to all the ammo?” We were at one of our local sporting goods stores. As you can see, the shelves were pretty bare. I asked the manager what the deal was and he said it has been like Black Friday at the store since Nov. 7th. They can’t keep anything in stock.     Thank you all for the 75th birthday wishes you left for Dad on Sunday. I posted a picture on Facebook of how he spent a part of the day:   Subscribe free to ChuckHeathJr.com and receive notice of each new post! Welcome, Friends! Happy 75th Birthday Dad! Ecclesiastes 11:8 However many years a man may live, let him enjoy them all. This verse pretty much describes the way my dad has tried to live his life. He has never slowed down in his search for new experiences and adventures: from the mountains of Alaska, jungles and savannas of Africa, remote tropical islands, rural Asian communities, Australia, Europe, Central America, etc… he never slows down. He is usually packing for his next trip before he’s finished unpacking from his last one. Next year, if his body holds up, he’ll finally get to visit Antarctica… a place he’s dreamed of seeing for years. Dad is not a wealthy man at all. He has proven that by being frugal and living within ones means, adventures like the ones he’s had can be experienced by anyone. I kick myself now when I realize how lucky I was growing up. We didn’t have very much money but we had a dad who had the guts to follow his heart and move his family to a small Alaskan town so we could experience what he had read and dreamed about as a boy. I can’t recall a weekend when we weren’t off on some kind of fishing, hunting, trapping, hiking, skiing, or other adventure. Sometimes it was something as simple as a family drive to take pictures of bald eagles, whales, or just us kids in front of majestic scenery. The older I get, the more I realize how lucky I was. As many people who know my dad personally will tell you, he still has... read more

Welcome, Friends! Yesterday was World Down Syndrome Day and Dad did an interview on Scott Hennen’s Common Sense Club to talk about life with Trig. The interview is below if you want to listen, with Dad’s particular segment being about 8 minutes long and starting at around the 30.00 mark. Guest host Janne Myrdal was a great interviewer and Dad appreciated the opportunity to talk about his grandson!   Here’s an inspiring picture and excerpt of a comment from Jim R. at LibertyPose.com. You can read the whole comment and join the conversation by clicking HERE. I don’t know what the future holds for all of you, but Sarah has the ability to reach every eye and ear in the world right now, whether they like it or not. Having that ability, I pray you all stay in the fight and somehow all of us left that cherish this country can rekindle the American Spirit that has for too long been just simmering, and once again be that flaming torch held in the hand of the Statue of Liberty so emblematic of our historic resolve and courage, not just a flickering flame but a roaring blaze, so that all feel the comforting warmth of being free. Alaska and the Filipino Community by Nancy Labonete

Thank you to Nancy Labonete for the following guest submission! Alaska and the Filipino Community In her recent speech at a leadership forum in Lakeland, Florida, Governor Sarah Palin spoke about influencing sports and culture. This brought to mind the time when I first came to the States from the Philippines some twenty years ago. While my husband and I were driving around our neighborhood, we stopped by at a garage sale and bought an old set of 70’s edition of Encyclopedia Britannica for seven dollars. Where I came from, books were expensive and whatever we owned in our younger years were usually textbooks. To own a complete set of encyclopedia would have been a splurge. Needless to say, I was very excited about my new acquisition. I picked up the first volume and happened to open the book on “ALASKA” – and was very amazed to learn that listed under the languages spoken in the state was my very own: Tagalog. I could not believe my eyes! At that time, I had very limited knowledge about American geography and history, much less about Alaska. Back then when I thought of Alaska, images of Eskimos, igloos, glaciers, polar bears and white explorers came to mind. To find footprints of a country that is barely one-fifth the size of this remote icy state was indeed a very pleasant surprise. It made me proud of my native country and at the same time, thankful that the presence of my fellow Filipinos was acknowledged – in an encyclopedia no less! Years later, I would come across a news article about the unveiling... read more
